Hot, Wet and Steamy

We have been suffering through a drought this spring, so when I heard we were getting rain I was overjoyed at the prospect of free water for the garden and the yard. Sure enough my daughter called from San Antonio with the news that they awoke in the middle of the night to thunder and lighting. The storm slowly moved toward the coast and when it hit down here, I was able to open all doors and windows. The air was cool and filled with moisture.

As the storm moved out across the gulf.....the sun came back out and now everything is hot, wet and steamy.

To the person who invented the air conditioner......all I can say is "Thank You."

There will be a large area for small children with a replica of the Lexington with water cannons on top so the children can shoot at the smaller boats that surround the larger aircraft carrier. There will also be three to five story slides for the crazy kids who have no fear.

It is my hope that the finished product will be family friendly.....not too expensive.... and not allowed to get run down. Corpus Christi has been trying to come into the 20th century, but has always been held back by old timers who want to keep Corpus Christi a small fishing village. Also, some small minded people can not stand the fact that someone else might make some money. Couple that with a segment of the population that thinks nothing of changing a baby diaper and tossing it along side the road or on the ground where ever they might be.

We had such a good time at the Aquatic Center last week. The center was clean, had many life guards on duty and the people were friendly and respectful of their surroundings.

I hope this project goes forward and works out well for the city.

My Little Town on the Texas Coast

Lots of Land


I thought I might share some photos of my little town on the Texas coast. We have only two stop lights in town and a set of working railroad tracks that cut through the center of town.

There is a small saloon in the heart of downtown and on several occasions I have seen a horse tied out front. Now that's true Texas style.

There is plenty of open land for more development. Thankfully it is the kind of town where if you leave a door unlocked, your stuff will still be there when you get home.

My neighbors on both sides of me are the sweetest people on earth. They have helped me when I was sick, by cutting the grass, taking care of my animals and bringing over food and medicine.

Early Voting !!!!

I voted yesterday and I wore my patriotic 4th of July hat. I was surprised.....everybody said they liked it and a few people tooted their horns as they drove by.
If you have early voting in your state......go now and exercise your constitutional right.

ALEX.....The First Hurricane of the Season

As you know, my home is just a few miles away from the gulf. Alex, the first hurricane of the season came inland around Brownsville several hundreds of miles away. The wind howled and it rained like the devil here. My grass, trees, shrubs and vegetable garden are all in heaven. God's water is just so much better for them than my watering with chlorinated water.
Did you know that Texas beaches are all open to the public and you can drive your car on the beach. The laws are written so no wealthy people can buy beachfront property and then fence it off so only they can use it. When I lived in Stamford Connecticut we just had a small postage stamp beach because all the wealthy people had bought up all the land along the coast, and then put of fences and high metal gates around their beach estates.
