Medieval Peasant Costume

After seeing the reckoning on netflix, I thought I would pull together a Medieval Peasant Costume from items soon to be listed for sale in my etsy clothing shop. I have used a elastic waist three tier black broomstick cotton skirt.....a denim cotton blouse...a spandex corset with a wide leather belt. The scarf is a vintage 30's shawl and too fancy for a true peasant costume. All in all I think the costume looks passable...not perfect for a Renaissance fair but good enough for Halloween.
Have a great day !

The Reckoning

The Reckoning is another gem of a film you might have missed when it was in the theaters. It's on netflix now so if you enjoy a mystery set in medieval times your in luck. I believe it was shot in the Rustic countryside of Wales.
The costumes of the peasants would seem to be simple to put together. I know....everybody wants to be the king or queen, but the peasants costume with it's rustic earth tones is just as interesting.
Have fun putting your Halloween costume together....and enjoy a good movie on netflix.

HBO "Carnivale" -Opening Sequence

It was 2003 and HBO had just presented a new show called "Carnivale". I vaguely remember watching the first few shows and gradually loosing interest. The opening sequence with the Tarot cards kept playing on the loop in my head. I started to research tarot cards, hungry to absorb as much knowledge as possible. Slowly an idea formed in my mind. The tarot card reader in the series seemed to be using hand made cards.....I could do that!!
The cards above are the very first Tarot cards I ever made. Most of my decks are purchased by collectors in Europe, however this very first deck was purchased by a dot com company called the Tarot Garden.

Let the Right One In

Let the Right One In

Set in winter in a dreary Swedish housing complex " let the right one in " is the love story of a child vampire and a forlorn bullied human child. Oskar is the human child, bullied in school and overlooked by his estranged parents. This fragile almost albino looking child meets "Eli" the dark child, on the snow covered play ground and the loneliness of the odd children blossom into first love.

This movie is stark and unsettling, but I love a good vampire movie set in modern time, although this movie seems to be set in the 1980's.

I streamed this little gem on my computer using my netflix account. The movie is in Swedish with subtitles but just like " Pans Labyrinth " the movie is comfortable in it's native language.

I understand the original producers have made the American version shot in 2010 renamed " Let me in ". I somehow don't think it will be as good as the original, but I will reserve judgement. The trailers of the new version look good and seem to have the same overall creepy feeling. But for now you can see the original on netflix or rent it at your local video store.

The titles of both films reflect the vampire lore, that a vampire cannot enter unless asked by a human.

Have a great day......now.....go watch a scary movie !
